30 Rock “Live Show”

Chock full of jokes about the miners, Canadians and product placement, the LIVE broadcast of 30 Rock was noticeably different from a normal Thursday from the first 30 seconds. It looked more like SNL to start with and the decreased sound quality actually bothered me a bit. What threw me off the most was the audience. Basically I felt like I was watching 23 minutes of SNL chaos, which isn’t necessarily bad but just takes some getting use to. So very, very different than a typical episode.

Several moments stood out to me as outstanding:
1. The first moment Julia Louis-Dreyfus appears as Liz Lemon.
2. JLD, “Why do you look better in your memory?” “My memory has Seinfeld money” joke
3. Jon Hamm (sigh)
4. Rachel Dratch, Bill Hader & Matt Damon in cameos
5. Dr. Spaceman’s segments

Overall, it wasn’t even close to the funniest episode of 30 Rock ever…or even this Season. I’d love to watch the West Coast feed and compare the two. But I’m not against occasionally mixing things up a bit to keep it interesting. One live show every 5 seasons is acceptable, let’s not overdue it though. I love my 30 Rock and think it’s perfect how it is.

Heather is a recent West Coast transplant and can't remember what humidity feels like. She spends most of her time (& money) watching movies, marathoning TV shows on DVD, attending concerts, reading, eating vegetables, attending conventions (San Diego Comic-Con, New York Comic Con, Dragon*Con so far!), blogging about her quarter-life crisis, downing coffee and traveling the world. She likes comic books, photography, reading on the Metro bus and wearing cold weather clothes despite the actual temperature in Southern California.
